Abstract

ARAUJO GUIMARAES, Nadya. Challenges of Equality: Restructuration and Gender and Race Inequality in Brasil. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2003, vol.65, n.4, pp.763-787. ISSN 2594-0651.

The text documents the pattern of unequal salaries between groups of different color or sex in Brazil. It argues that body physical differences are significant, although not exclusive, elements for explaining the income gap. It also isolates probable indexes of racial and/or gender discrimination, using a statistical control of the effect of other possible determinants. It ends by reflecting on the links between inequality, discrimination and intolerance in workplaces in Brazil.

Keywords : income gap; racism; sexism; industrial labor.
