Abstract

DE LA GARZA TOLEDO, Enrique. Neoinstitutionalism: alternative to rational choice? A discussion held by Economy and Sociology. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2005, vol.67, n.1, pp.163-203. ISSN 2594-0651.

This article seeks to explore Neoinstitutionalistic proposals regarding the perspective of the rational actor in Economics. It provides theoretical options based on a perspective of actors pressured by structures, which lend meaning to their situation and interact with the field of Economics. In other words, the article also engages in a dialogue with economic Sociology, whose concept of "embedded" is considered insufficient. It proposes a notion of "configuration" which can be applied to social relations, the structure of theory and the process of conferring meaning.

Keywords : Neoinstitutionalism; rational choice; "configuration".
