Abstract

RAMIREZ KURI, Patricia. Local Space and Social Differentiation in Mexico City. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2007, vol.69, n.4, pp.641-682. ISSN 2594-0651.

This text reflects on local issues as a strategic scale of analysis for social, economic, cultural and political processes that are produced in the urban space and modify the image, meanings, uses, functions and structures of the city. The reflection is situated in the local sphere of Mexico City, the capital of the country, based on research undertaken in Coyoacan, a historic site and geographical center of the Federal District, where urban processes and problems converge that emphasize the forms of segregation and social exclusion, inequality and conflicts derived from the new economic order.

Keywords : city; local space; public space; social segregation; informality.
