Abstract

SALEJ HIGGINS, Silvio. Jesuit Ethics and the Spirit of Development. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2009, vol.71, n.4, pp.737-768. ISSN 2594-0651.

The author analyzes the creation of the Development and Peace Program in na Medio (Colombia). River Magdalena is the country's main river and the central region of its inter-Andean valley is the geographical heart of the country. This socio-historic reconstruction is based on two axes: one, the understanding of the incentives that led a religious bureaucracy -Jesuits priests- to undertake a proposal for development in a region with acute political conflicts, and two, the identification of the rational causes underlying the "immediate development" proposal launched by the Jesuit leaders.

Keywords : territorial development; rationality of social action; economic ethics.
