Abstract

GALVEZ SANTILLAN, Elizabeth; GUTIERREZ GARZA, Esthela  and  PICAZZO PALENCIA, Esteban. Decent work: new paradigm for strengthening social rights. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2011, vol.73, n.1, pp.73-104. ISSN 2594-0651.

The article presents the International Labor Organization (ilo)'s decent work proposal as an alternative for reappraising work by strengthening workers' social rights. It highlights the importance of this approach and proposes a methodology for measuring the Decent Work Index, comprising the following sub-indices: durable employment, occupied population with sufficient salary and occupied population with social benefits or the equivalent. The text focuses on the state of Nuevo León in 2007 and provides two analyses: decent work among the total occupied population and decent work according to workers' educational attainment.

Keywords : decent work; human development; Decent Work Index.
