Abstract

DIMARCO, Sabina. From pathogenic to environmental: disputes over meaning in residue classification. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2012, vol.74, n.2, pp.185-212. ISSN 2594-0651.

This article analyzes changes in how waste sorting activity was problematized in Buenos Aires during different historical moments. Focusing on two end - of - the - century periods, we aim to show that the way this activity is socially perceived can be associated with the characteristics of other two central problems of urban life: work and urban waste. The analysis is based on the survey and systematization of documents covering a multiplicity of heterogeneous discourses (journalistic, academic, governmental, artistic, etc.) of the studied periods.

Keywords : work; waste sorting activity; debris; social question; environment.
