Abstract

ALVAREZ-ICAZA LONGORIA, Pedro. The use and conservation of biodiversity in collective properties: A proposed typology of levels of governance. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2014, vol.76, n.spe, pp.199-226. ISSN 2594-0651.

In recent decades, the management of common natural resources by communities of users has created a new paradigm of contemporary socio-environmental thinking. At the center of this paradigm is the debate over the fate of collective resources. This text seeks to show that forms of land tenure are not directly responsible for the conservation of natural resources. There is ample evidence that forms of use and management and the distribution of rights among actors are the factors that influence sustainability.

Keywords : common-pool resources; typology of levels of governance; communities; biodiversity.
