Abstract

SALAS QUINTANAL, Hernán; VELASCO SANTOS, Paola; GONZALEZ NAVA, Leonor Alejandra  and  LOPEZ MIGUEL, Celia. The Covid-19 pandemic: Meanings and consequences in the ways of life in Tlahuapan, Puebla. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2021, vol.83, n.spe2, pp.159-191.  Epub Oct 18, 2021. ISSN 2594-0651.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2021.0.60172.

This article aims to discern and interpret the transformations in the way of life of rural dwellers caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Drawing on a collaborative semi-virtual ethnography and a household survey conducted in late 2020 in Tlahuapan, Puebla, we examine their experiences, socially constructed meanings, and perceived risks, as well as the material and historical conditions that sha-pe their response to the crisis. Based on this methodology, it is argued that the pandemic has been locally resignified and expressed in particular ways, affecting our understanding of its consequences and meanings.

Keywords : health; pandemic; everyday life; rurality; patchwork digital ethnography.
