Abstract
MILANESE, Juan Pablo; MANFREDI, Luciana and PEREZ RENDON, Nelson. Effects of accessibility on voter abstention: Colombia, 2014-2018. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2023, vol.85, n.4, pp.857-890. Epub Nov 10, 2023. ISSN 2594-0651. https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2023.4.61142.
This paper analyzes how accessibility to polling stations affects electoral abstention in Colombia. The results show that regardless of the type of election, distance and abstention are directly related. Within this framework, although distance is not considered a crucial cause of turnout, it is relevant for its impact on voters characterized by limited commitment. Meanwhile, the impact of impedance is not homogeneous, since it depends on the existence of electoral machines that simplify the process of voter mobilization.
