Abstract

POBLETE, Lorena. Latin American domestic workers facing the Covid-19 pandemic. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2023, vol.85, n.spe, pp.137-167.  Epub Feb 24, 2023. ISSN 2594-0651.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2023.0.60452.

Covid-19 pandemic raised unprecedented social problems, such as the loss of income due to loss of access to the workplace. Domestic workers were one of the groups most affected by layoffs or working-time reductions. From a comparative regulation perspective and based on an analysis of the norms established during the first nine months of the pandemic, this article seeks to understand the institutional measures to provide economic security to paid domestic workers, focusing on the tension between extending the legal protections of employees or expanding current social policies.

Keywords : paid domestic work; Latin America; Covid-19 pandemic; social security; income transfer programs.
