Abstract

GONZALEZ, Guadalupe; KESSLER, Gabriel  and  MURILLO, María Victoria. Academic fields beyond the center-periphery dichotomy. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2024, vol.86, n.1, pp.9-41.  Epub Feb 23, 2024. ISSN 2594-0651.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2024.1.61528.

This work shows that Argentine social sciences constitute an intermediate field with its own institutions, incentives, and promotion criteria, which weakens the influence of the academic center. As a sample, it uses the three most cited articles by the researchers in the Committees of Sociology and Political Science of the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (Conicet), the most internationalized in the scientific system. With these data, it generated networks of co-citation, defined thematic communities of researchers and explored their particularities. It was found that citations to Argentine authors and locally important subjects promoted by publications in Spanish predominate.

Keywords : field; sociology; political science; citations; center-periphery.
