This essay proposes to demonstrate, on the basis of a set of fundamental concepts that are now accepted in the academic milieu, research and concrete cases, that research in semiotics has advanced to such a degree that it is in conditions to become -under the modality of the semiotics of culture- a discipline in its own right, that takes as its object of study all those communication processes that operate in society and which, together constitute culture.
