Abstract

REYNA GARCIA, Víctor Hugo. From standardization to deskilling: The unintended consequences of Mexican journalism’s modernization. Comun. soc [online]. 2019, vol.16, e7072.  Epub Nov 30, 2019. ISSN 0188-252X.  https://doi.org/10.32870/cys.v2019i0.7072.

This article proposes a new reading of Mexican journalism’s modernization. Based on interviews with journalists from three Northern Mexican states that have been identified as pioneers of Mexican journalism’s modernization, it shows how the standardization of news production has generated -as an unintended consequence- a deskilling of journalistic work.

Keywords : Deskilling; standardization; modernization; journalism; Mexico.
