Abstract

GLANTZ, Margo. Federico Gamboa, between Santa and Porfirio Díaz. Lit. mex [online]. 2010, vol.21, n.2, pp.39-49. ISSN 2448-8216.

The author presents a chronicle of the life of Federico Gamboa based on the reading of that writer's diaries. In this chronicle she mentions to us that the novel Santa was written in Guatemala, between the 7th of April of 1900 and the 14th of February of 1902. During the publication and achievement of the work as a best seller, the country and its author suffered through the revolution, the fall of Madero, and the coup d'état of Victoriano Huerta. In the end, this book shed glory upon Federico Gamboa, and gave him ingress into the Academia Mexicana de la Lengua, the culmination of a life dedicated to letters.

Keywords : Federico Gamboa; Santa; Mexican novel.
