Abstract
VARGAS, Rosío and OCAMPO, Edgar. Impact of Covid-19 on North American Energy Security. Econ: teor. práct [online]. 2020, n.spe5, pp.145-169. Epub July 30, 2021. ISSN 2448-7481. https://doi.org/10.24275/etypuam/ne/e052020/vargas.
The US oil and gas industry has been negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic following the drop in international oil prices. The measures that were taken to contain the spread of the disease impacted global mobility, which led to a decrease in world oil consumption. This has affected production rates and thus the future supply of hydrocarbons produced in the United States. Hence the interest in analyzing its consequences on United States cross-border energy trade with its two close neighbors: Canada and Mexico. If energy trade is adversely affected, the pandemic would certainly have an impact on North American energy security and the geopolitical project of non-conventional hydrocarbons, or shale oil and gas.
Keywords : Cross-border energy trade; cross-border flows; fracking industry; energy security in North America.
