Abstract

GONZALEZ PEREZ, Gilberto. Labor Market Automation and Dynamics in the Automotive Industry in Mexico. Econ: teor. práct [online]. 2022, n.56, pp.67-104.  Epub Apr 25, 2022. ISSN 2448-7481.  https://doi.org/10.24275/etypuam/ne/562022/gonzalez.

This analysis focuses on identifying the productive characteristics of automotive assembly plants in Mexico to evaluate the dynamics of the labor market, within the framework of technological automation processes. It is carried out through an agent-based simulation using MESA Python, the results of which point in two directions: a) the industry’s employment rate depends mainly on the expansion rate of small vehicle exports to the US, b) its growth is sustained by consolidating the gap between productivity and compensation for human work.

Keywords : Automotive; labor market; automation; R&D; agent-based simulation.
