Abstract

CASTRO LUGO, David. Disparidad salarial urbana en México, 1992-2002. Estud. soc [online]. 2007, vol.15, n.29, pp.117-153. ISSN 0188-4557.

This document analyzes the behavior of the urban wage inequality in Mexico during the period 1992-2002, using the National Survey of Urban Employment (ENEU) including 33 cities to Which covers different points from the national territory. The results indicate that the wage inequality increased until 1997 and the source of this behavior is in an increase of the disparity between different groups (cities, sex, activity and schooling) like as the interior of such, and within these components the factor price was most relevant. The analysis of the wage disparity by urban areas allows to establish that the increase of the wage inequality average between cities does not rely in the differences of endowment of factors but in the remunerations that these resources have in the different urban centers; in addition this behavior seems to have a clearly spatial connotation therefore throughout the period of study it seems to be observed a greater wage inequality in geographic terms.

Keywords : Wage urban inequality; Mexico.
