Abstract

RIOS NUNEZ, Sandra  and  COQ HUELVA, Daniel. El poder de la Gran Distribución en el sistema agroalimentario actual: El caso de los lácteos en Chile. Estud. soc [online]. 2010, vol.18, n.36, pp.57-75. ISSN 0188-4557.

The Big Distribution (BD) is a central agent of modern agrifood systems. This importance is evident in Latin-American, particularly in Chile, where the BD concentrates over 60% of sales of food and household products. Furthermore, it is an oligopolized sector. There are in Chile two groups concentrated about 65% of sales of these establishments. This concentration gives to leader group's great market power over agro-food processing industry. In the case of dairy in Chile this struggle can be seen clearly. Despite, their presence has been essential to explain many of the productive and logistic changes produced in the milk production in recent years.

Keywords : agri-food system; agrifood distribution; Big Distribution; dairy agri-food industry; dairy products.
