Abstract

AGUIRRE SALA, Jorge Francisco. Strengthening participatory citizenship through the new media. Estud. soc [online]. 2012, vol.20, n.39, pp.39-64. ISSN 0188-4557.

Of originality and peculiarity, distinguishing itself by processes of des-territorialization and abandonment of a single language. The success of this dissolution-transfiguration causes a sense of inferiority as a citizen before the power that one can have as a consumer. The web-blogs, chats, e-mail, twitter, facebook, interactive public or private gates, and wikis, constituted as new media, are instruments made to exercise the right of demanding rights and recover the superiority of being a citizen. They allow the elevation of the private sphere to public reach and co-legislation. In other words, they prevent the loss of power and the fragmentation of citizenship by encouraging participatory democracy.

Keywords : participatory democracy; co-legislation; new media; enforceability of rights.
