Abstract

In the present intensive model of using agrochemicals and its consequences for health and environment, organic food emerge as an option for sustainable and healthy production for consumers. This article exposes the results of a study about general factors that organizes the social representation of fresh organic food in three groups of consumers in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas. The study was fulfill with cuantitive and cualitative devices with 250 consumers in three different selling places. Results point out similarities and differences according to the studied social group. In the three cases exists concerns about health that are shown in a variety of risk factors. Differences appear in their politics and ideological standings, likewise in their opportunity to access organic food. Education degree was not a determine factor to distinguish between the emitted social representations.
