Abstract

KUMAR ACHARYA, Arun. Invisible women and sexual victim in Mexico: The case of trafficking of women in Monterrey. Estud. soc [online]. 2013, vol.21, n.42, pp.233-258. ISSN 0188-4557.

The aim of the paper is to analyze the phenomenon and dynamics of trafficking in women to Monterrey, as well as sexual exploitation and its consequences. Results show that in recent years the trafficking of women has increased to Monterrey for several reasons. Economic growth has caused a massive increase in business travel and tourism. Parallel to this, sex tourism has also developed. To meet the demands of sex services, bar owners, massage parlors, travel marginalized areas of Mexico and lure young girls through several promises to employment and later force them to work in prostitution. Trafficked women suffer a wide range of violence and exploitation, which have direct affect to their physical, mental and sexual condition.

Keywords : women trafficking; sexual victims; health condition; social suffering; Monterrey.
