Abstract

Tenextepango, in the state of Morelos, was established as a hiring center of farm laborers engaged in harvesting in the area since the sixties. However in the first decade of the century it is also a source of provision of farm laborers for exporting companies in the Northwestern of Mexico. This paper emphasizes the way that the different types of labor brokers in the area operate, to connect employees and employers who are geographically separated. Hiere is a comparisson between two types of labor brokers: the "capitanes" who mobilize farm laborers in Morelos, Hidalgo, Puebla and Michoacán, and "mayordomos" who send workers to the northwest part of the country. The scenario becomes complex with because the government's programs that support the transfer of farm laborers to certain labor markets.
