Abstract

AMARO-ROSALES, Marcela  and  VILLAVICENCIO-CARBAJAL, Daniel Hugo. Innovation incentives for agro-food biotechnology in Mexico. Estud. soc [online]. 2015, vol.23, n.45, pp.33-45. ISSN 0188-4557.

In this article we analyze innovations in biotechnology related to the agricultural and food sectors in Mexico. We take into account the public policies, laws and regulations; the dynamics of the sectors and the market. We also analyze the way by which scientific and technological inputs of knowledge offered by biotechnology are exploited by the agro-food companies. The main conclusion is that the institutional and regulatory frame and the market dynamics, represent more barriers than incentives for the development and application of biotechnological innovations, and therefore to improve the quality of food and to increase the competitiveness of the agricultural sector in the country.

Keywords : agro-food biotechnology; incentives; innovation; institutions; knowledge.
