This paper deals with the analysis of tourism within the framework of under­development. Tourism is considered today as one of the main economic activities, if not the most important in some cases, in Mexico. Thus, it is necessary to evaluate its participation in the national economy and also study the alterations that tourism creates in the physical environment and in the social and economic characteristics of the population.
