Abstract

HERNANDEZ, Ma. Engracia. Distribución y utilidad de los Abies en México. Invest. Geog [online]. 1985, n.15, pp.75-118. ISSN 2448-7279.

This article deals with the geographical distribution of trees in Mexico. A map of collection sites of Abies was made from information from three herbaria in Mexico City. This map was compared with maps of temperature and precipitation. It was found that the distribution of firs is related to altitude; they are located in either cool or temperate climates with annual precipitation from 800 to 1 200 mm, where Lang's humidity index P/T) varies from 66.7 to 83.3. In Mexico the genus is important for control of erosion and ecological conservation, as well as its material value for pulp and wood.
