Abstract

MAGAZ GARCIA, Antonio R.; DIAZ DIAZ, Jorge Luis  and  HERNANDEZ SANTANA, José Ramón. Elementos geomorfológicos básicos para el análisis y determinación de zonas de fallamiento activo en las condiciones de Cuba. Invest. Geog [online]. 1998, n.35, pp.9-83. ISSN 2448-7279.

This research constitutes the result of the cuban participation in the Proyect "World map of active faults" within the International Litospheric Program. On the basis of the experience about cuban relief, the classification of the geomorphological elements in excluded, primary and secondary ones to identify active faults was proposed, as well as the local approach was used to determine their activity. The more characteristic cuban relief features are: main active structures are in relation with faults but not with foldings, existence of four temporary fault fields, predominance of vertical upon horizontal movements, association among active faults and seismic zones and complicated differentiation of the pleistocene and holocene tectonic activity.
