Abstract

DIAZ SALGADO, Jesús  and  LOPEZ BLANCO, Jorge. Evaluación del potencial para acuacultura costera de camarón en el entorno de la laguna de Mar Muerto, mediante la aplicación de técnicas de análisis multicriterio con un SIG. Invest. Geog [online]. 2000, n.41, pp.62-80. ISSN 2448-7279.

Considering production-cost factors, this paper shows and assessing the opportunities and the extent of land suitability areas to establish and development coastal shrimp aquaculture activities on the neighbouring sites to the Mar Muerto Lagoon. Six factors were considered: proximity to salt water sites, proximity to roads, proximity to raw-matter sources, well-being level, land-use and land-cover classes, and electricity. The use of Geographical Information System (GIS) was important in order to carry out analysis using distance-operators, classification, overlaying, and mainly Multicritena Analysis. The results show that there are 0.9% of the total area as high potentiality for the emplacement of aquaculture projects, 62.8% with medium potentiality and 36.3% with low potentiality.

Keywords : Potential sites selection; shrimp aquaculture; GIS; Multicriteria Analysis Techniques; Mar Muerto Lagoon; Mexico.
