Abstract

GARCIA BALLESTEROS, Aurora. The recuperation of the local scale in population geography. Invest. Geog [online]. 2000, n.43, pp.76-87. ISSN 2448-7279.

The purpuse of this research work is to examine the various spatial perspectives used in Population Geography during the last decades, particularly focusing on the debate between global and local scales, which has led to the recuperation of the latter without abandoning the former. In the last decade of the twentieth century specialists on Population Geography are still divided between supporters of spatial demography and those inclined towards a social approach, which considers more diversified theoretical bases and methodological tools. In support to the social approach, in this paper special attention is given to the role that it plays in Population Geography.

Keywords : Population Geography; geodemography; place; social geography; spatial pattern.
