Abstract

RAMIREZ, Blanca Rebeca. Regional geography: traditions and contemporary perspectives. Invest. Geog [online]. 2007, n.64, pp.116-133. ISSN 2448-7279.

During the two centuries of existance, the knowledge of the direction and trajectories followed by regional geography has been part of the centre of geography as a hole. Nowadays, there are not a unique vision of regional thinking but a great variety of theories as perspectives of analysis. The positivist perspective and the models of territorial organizations coexist with the humanist perspectives and those derived of Marxism: the poststructuralists and the neomarxists visions. The aim of this paper is to present those theoretical perspectives, concluding with the main contemporary debates we face of the regional thinking.

Keywords : Human and regional geography; humanist geography; region; locale; place.
