Abstract

MORALES HERNANDEZ, Julio César et al. Wind and temperature fields in Bahía de Banderas (Mexico): spatial and temporal analysis. Invest. Geog [online]. 2013, n.81, pp.7-17. ISSN 2448-7279.

The information from a network of weather stations for the region of Bahía de Banderas allows spatial and temporal analysis (annual and monthly schedule) for the period June 2010 to June 2012. The study area is the atmospheric basin of Bahía de Banderas, which includes the municipalities of Bahía de Banderas, coordinates 20º 40' N Longitude: -104º 57' W, Puerto Vallarta 20º 36'N, 105º 13' W, Cape Corrientes 20.30º 08', -105.62º 19'. The data used were obtained from the Air Quality Monitoring Network in the Region Bahía de Banderas, which consists of 10 automatic weather stations distributed heterogeneously in the study area, providing data on the main meteorological variables at 10 min intervals. It has been observed that the behavior throughout the year from major meteorological variables (such as wind and temperature) are determined alternately by processes at the local (sea breeze), and macro-scale (mainly the presence of the North Pacific anticyclone and variability of trade winds). Annual wind roses are presented and Matlab-derived datawere interpolated for averaging velocity and temperature and a comparison was made of their behavior throughout the day. The results support the development of future research on the local and mesoscale atmospheric processes in the tropics.

Keywords : Banderas Bay; atmospheric processes; atmospheric monitoring.
