Abstract

HERRERA-MURILLO, Jorge  and  RODRIGUEZ-ROMAN, Susana. Anion concentration assessment in bulk precipitation samples collected in San José, Costa Rica. Part I. Rev. Int. Contam. Ambient [online]. 2009, vol.25, n.2, pp.65-72. ISSN 0188-4999.

Measurement of SO4-2, NO3-, Cl-, NO2-, Br-, PO4-3, conductivity and pH was performed on bulk precipitation samples collected at six sites in San José City, Costa Rica, from July to November, 2006. 45 % of the samples presented a pH value between 4.0 and 5.6, while only 26 % of them were basic. Two factors were found after a principal component analysis was applied to results. Factor 1 indicated a contribution of anthropogenic sources for NO3- and NO2-. Factor 2 indicated a possible contribution of anthropogenic and sea sources for SO4-2 and Cl-.

Keywords : anions; bulk precipitation; San José Costa Rica.
