Abstract
ALONSO, Gustavo; RAMIREZ, José Ramón and PALACIOS, Javier C.. Nuclear energy in México as an alternative to reduce CO2 emissions. Rev. Int. Contam. Ambient [online]. 2011, vol.27, n.3, pp.271-273. ISSN 0188-4999.
One of the main concerns related with global warming is the reduction of the green house emissions. Mexico is taking steps to solve this problem, in its recent National Energy Strategy has considered to increase the use of clean electricity sources up to a 35 % the share to be met at 2024, currently this participation in electricity generation is 23.9%. In 2008 the Mexican Electrical Network produced 0.466 tons of CO2/MWh, this index is above the OECD 0.45 CO2/MWh average value. The current study considers the use of nuclear energy as part of the addition of clean energy to the Electrical grid; it proposes the capacity and the numbers of nuclear reactors to be used and it provides the emissions scenario generated with this proposal.
Keywords : power supply; CO2 emission; clean energy.
