It is estimated by commercial waste collectors that these establishments contribute with 22 % of urban solid waste generated in the city, however little is known about this type of waste. This paper presents the results of a generation and characterization study of commercial waste in Mexicali city. To develop this research, a commercial waste collection route was selected and identified the different type of business that were involved, then a characterization study was conducted during five consecutive days in landfill site.
