Abstract

OCHOA-MARTINEZ, Ángeles Catalina et al. BENCENE EXPOUSURE IN AN URBAN CHILDREN’S POPULATION IN NORTHEAST MEXICO. Rev. Int. Contam. Ambient [online]. 2018, vol.34, n.3, pp.541-546. ISSN 0188-4999.  https://doi.org/10.20937/rica.2018.34.03.15.

The aim of this study was to assess the benzene exposure levels in children living in Cadereyta Jiménez in Nuevo León state, through determination of urinary trans, trans-muconic acid, a biomarker of benzene exposure. Our results shown that 28 % of the population exceeds the biological exposure index (500 µg/g CR). Considering that benzene is related with hematological malignances it is necessary to undertake studies to assess hematological risks in children living in areas with petrochemical activity.

Keywords : hydrocarbon; health child; risks; Cadereyta Jiménez.
