Abstract
SANCHEZ-OLARTE, Josset et al. Economic analysis of the socio-technical system amaranth cultivation in Tochimilco, Puebla. Acta univ [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.3, pp.95-104. ISSN 2007-9621. https://doi.org/10.15174/au.2016.888.
Amaranth in Tochimilco, Puebla, represents an alternative that provides income to peasant production units. This is due to apparent low supply of grain and a demand which is increasing. Even though in the study area predominate amaranth traditional management supplemented with elements of technology management, however, there are not economic data about costs and benefits for producers. The question that guided research was: Is there a difference in economic benefit which is provided by cultivation of amaranth between that which is traditionally managed and tech? Information obtained through a questionnaire to 83 producers. Results show that contribution of amaranth is relevant and could be increased depending on time in which it is marketed, in relation to management, both managements are economically viable.
