Abstract

COVARRUBIAS FEREGRINO, Arlette. Time poverty of Mexicans. Acta univ [online]. 2019, vol.29, e2325.  Epub Sep 11, 2020. ISSN 2007-9621.  https://doi.org/10.15174/au.2019.2325.

Time poverty denoting time scarcity for leisure and self-care has direct and indirect effects (through mental and physical health) on individuals’ wellbeing. Thus, in order to identify the problem and make it visible, it is fundamental to quantify the time deprivation that people experiment. Based on Bardasi & Wodon (2006), in this article a measure of individual time poverty is estimated for Mexico. To this effect, data from the Encuesta Nacional de Uso de Tiempo (ENUT) 2014 is used. Additionally, to identify the sociodemographic conditions that influence people’s probability to suffer from time poverty, a Logit regression is estimated, one for women and one for men.

Keywords : Time poverty; time-use; leisure; wellbeing.
