Abstract

MARTINEZ MARTINEZ, Juan Luis  and  HERNANDEZ GUERRERO, Juan Alfredo. Baseline for a non-formal environmental education program in the Xichú micro-basin, Guanajuato. Acta univ [online]. 2021, vol.31, e2933.  Epub Feb 16, 2022. ISSN 2007-9621.  https://doi.org/10.15174/au.2021.2933.

Environmental education programs with a watershed approach are characterized by their non-formal nature and their lack of a baseline for implementation, which emerges as the management process is in progress. The aim of the work was to define a baseline for a non-formal environmental education program in the Xichú micro-basin, in Guanajuato. The methodology consisted of applying surveys to the population as well as interviews carried out with key informants from institutions, the academia, and non-governmental organizations. In the results, nine environmental themes were established, the upper and lower functional areas of the micro-basin were prioritized, the White-tailed Deer was selected as the flagship species, and teaching strategies were identified. There is not enough environmental information; however, there is motivation to participate in activities of the environmental education program. The project concludes with a work that can be replicated and which can work as support in programs, projects, and territorial evaluations.

Keywords : Baseline; non-formal environmental education; micro-basin; management; teaching strategies.
