Abstract

ERANA, Ángeles  and  BARCELO ASPEITIA, Axel Arturo. Knowledge as a Collective Activity. Tópicos (México) [online]. 2016, n.51, pp.9-35. ISSN 0188-6649.  https://doi.org/10.21555/top.v0i0.746.g738.

In this paper we will advance an epistemological perspective where the collective and social elements in knowledge play a fundamental role in explaining its production and transmition. We first present and criticize an individualist position which has been prevalent in contemporary epistemology and which can be traced back to Descartes. After doing this we introduce and defend our own proposal, one in which knowledge is a process constituted by a set of activities and practices of a material character.

Keywords : knowledge; epistemology; collectivity; materiality; objectivity; intentional attitude.
