Abstract

LAGO, Alessandro Dal. Frentes y fronteras: notas sobre la militarización de la contigüidad.Translated byHugo Armando Brito Rivera,  Ángela Giglia. Alteridades [online]. 2005, vol.15, n.30, pp.43-49. ISSN 2448-850X.

This article examines the way in which the notion of border has been changing in different stages of recent geopolitical history. During the last century, limits as well as fronts and boundaries were part of the same political line, that is, a limit made sense in regards to a border and it became reaffirmed through a military front. Nowadays, the relation among limits, fronts and borders has become more complex. Political limits are the same and they still are object of various conflicts; however, the space of borders and fronts do not coincide to the ones of political limits anymore, they only exist in international diplomacy conventions. Limits represent, only in appearance, the relation among States while fronts and borders constitute the current reality of a strategic military force movement, which resides within worldwide economic and social scenery. The present disappearing of certain borders among States -as it has recently occurred in Europe- has not always implied an increase of freedom but it has represented new violation of human rights.

Keywords : civil rights; democratization; limits; fronts; borders.
