Abstract

LIMON AGUIRRE, Fernando. La ciudadanía del pueblo chuj en México: Una dialéctica negativa de identidades. Alteridades [online]. 2008, vol.18, n.35, pp.85-98. ISSN 2448-850X.

Mayan-Chuj people's citizenship. A negative dialectic of identities. The Mayan-Chuj people, with a numericalmqjority and culturally centered in Guatemala, has been present in Mexico since the current border was drawn. A century later and after living as refugees, some families of Guatemalan origin decided to acquire Mexican citizenship. The historical trajectory of this people -marked by identities ascribed in the logic of power- remains in their memories. Discrimination and revindication account for a negative dialectic of identities; therefore, their experience makes us reframe the notion of citizenship.

Keywords : Mexico-Guatemala border; territory; resistance; memory.
