Abstract

BOCO, Rita  and  BULANIKIAN, Gisela. Human Rights: universalism vs cultural relativism. Alteridades [online]. 2010, vol.20, n.40, pp.9-22. ISSN 2448-850X.

We do a historical enquire of the social contexts in which the concept of Human Rights has been developed. This approach has been made through two contrasting perspectives -cultural relativism and universalism. This allows to analize the ideological uses of these two theoretical approaches and apply them to and draw conclusions from the Pinochet case and its impact on global justice.

Keywords : cultural relativism; universalism; ideology; human rights; dignity.
