Abstract

KROPFF, Laura. The young Mapuches in Argentina: between the punk circuit and land recovery. Alteridades [online]. 2011, vol.21, n.42, pp.77-89. ISSN 2448-850X.

The young Mapuches in Argentina: between the punk circuit and land recovery. This article is based on the ethnographic fieldwork with young Mapuches in the province of Rio Negro, Argentina. I focus on the activists in the highland city San Carlos de Bariloche and members of the community Mariano Epulef, who are in the process of recovering their territory. Based on the ethnography, this article seeks for the age differentiation, specialization and the aboriginal sense of rural and urban spaces/places, highlighting the agency's articulations that defy hegemonic meanings. The theoretical framework recovers concepts from classic anthropology, current anthropology of the young, and ethnic and cultural studies.

Keywords : aboriginal; age; specialization; activism.
