Abstract

SUAREZ, Hugo José. Faith and Generation: Analysis of a Survey on Religious Beliefs and Practices. Alteridades [online]. 2013, vol.23, n.45, pp.49-62. ISSN 2448-850X.

An analysis on the results of the Survey on Religious Experience carried out in the neighborhood of Ajusco, in Mexico City. It shows the main results regarding the religious beliefs and practices, focusing on the generational aspect. Four analysis groups were formed for this purpose: 18 to 29 years old, 30 to 49, 50 to 69 and 70 to 88. A typology of religious behavior was elaborated from the relation established between dogma and ecclesial institutionalism. It is concluded that there is a great generational difference, which can be observed particularly in the behavior of the youngest group. On the one hand, this shows different ways of religious sociality and, on the other hand, the global process of transformation that the Mexican society is facing at present.

Keywords : urban religiousness; religious beliefs and practices; religion and generation; religion in Mexico.
