Abstract

HIRAI, Shinji. Ways of returning to homeland in transnationalism: Theoretical notes on return migration. Alteridades [online]. 2013, vol.23, n.45, pp.95-105. ISSN 2448-850X.

In the field of international migration studies, return migration has long been considered the movement involving the re-establishment and the permanence in the place of origin or the end of the migratory cycle. Reviewing different typologies of return migrant, this paper presents the state of the art in return migration studies. From the transnational perspective, this work also attempts to explain that return migration is a more complex form of mobility, and there are various ways of returning home and the nexus between definitive return and return visit.

Keywords : transnationalism; return migration; return visit; typology of return migrant; mobility events.
