Abstract

PEREZ NEGRETE, Margarita. Discourse and the Materiality of Constructive Processes in Mexico City. Alteridades [online]. 2013, vol.23, n.46, pp.09-25. ISSN 2448-850X.

An interweaving of different constructive processes is analyzed, and their role in the configuration of urban development in the metropolitan area of Mexico City (zona metropolitana de la Ciudad de México -ZMCM). By carrying out some theoretical considerations on the power of civilizing discourse of globalization and the role of urbanization as a driving force of capitalist accumulation, this work offers an approach to some of the subjects that illustrate the proliferation of constructive processes that come to life in a daily basis, explaining the dynamism of the physical expansion of the city. It tries to identify the links between local constructive processes and the cumulative logic of global production of space.

Keywords : constructive processes; capital accumulation; urbanization; privatization; globalization; civilizing discourse.
