Abstract

PORTAL, María Ana. Urban Development and its Impact on Native Peoples in Mexico City. Alteridades [online]. 2013, vol.23, n.46, pp.53-64. ISSN 2448-850X.

This work is focused on the analysis of the meaning of village within a city such as Mexico City. Some of the main aspects of its definition are reviewed and questioned, as well as its transformations and the sociopolitical dynamics between them. The study and analysis of native peoples face to a city is of vital importance since, currently, their recognition and social visibility is at stake; besides, the drafting of a legislation is seeking to bind them politically and legally to the city.

Keywords : native peoples; urban village; Mexico City.
