Abstract

REYES DOMINGUEZ, Guadalupe. Images of a Child in Two Groups of Mayan Descendant Children. Alteridades [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.47, pp.31-42. ISSN 2448-850X.

This article studies the image that two groups of children -in Merida, Yucatan and in the urbanfringe- have about children. The differences between both groups are explained in relation to the greater or lesser distance of such images with respect to the hegemonic perspective on infancy and to the Mayan notion of childhood. The failure of various approaches and metaphors employed by social sciences to explain the vision that children in this research have about themselves is also shown.

Keywords : childhood; infancy; urban fringe; Yucatan.
