Abstract

QUECHA REYNA, Citlali. Jugar al norte (playing north): a ludic representation of International Migration in Non-Migrant Afro-Descendant Children. Alteridades [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.47, pp.43-52. ISSN 2448-850X.

This article focuses on the children of Afrodescendant migrants located in Costa Chica, Oaxaca, Mexico: Corralero. Migration towards the United States in this region is relatively recent, so children do not necessarily travel with their parents. In spite of remaining in the town, through their playful activities children imagine and recreate how the North and the border crossing looks like. This paper shows their views on the subject, recognizing the children's ability to take control and give a meaning to their daily life.

Keywords : childhood; representations; play; migration to the United States.
