Abstract

DEL RIO, Norma. Counterpoints of the Medical-Epidemiological Model of Early Intervention. Alteridades [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.47, pp.53-60. ISSN 2448-850X.

This work disputes two thoughts of the theoretical-methodological foundations of early intervention programs, which have deep differences in their idea of childhood, the role of the adult, the reasons and approaches for the intervention, as well as of the forms of assessment suggested to measure their social impact. The first one considers an epidemiological approach, emphasizing in prevention and regulation of development, whereas the second one commits to diversity and multilinear development of the child's skills as a venue for relationships.

Keywords : early childhood; modernism-postmodernism; ethics of care; child participation; public policies; risk; comprehensive protection; rights paradigm.
