Abstract

TELLEZ CONTRERAS, León Felipe. The Markets of San Juan. Collective Goods in Transformation. Alteridades [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.51, pp.15-27. ISSN 2448-850X.

This paper is about the four markets of San Juan, located southwest of the Historic Center of Mexico City. it shows the link between the transformation of the markets, the meaning of neighborhoods and the patterns of local consumption. The use of documentary sources and the results of an intensive fieldwork allow to connect the markets' physical modifications with the emergence of sociocultural experiences in the urban context. This helps us think about the sense of the markets of San Juan as collective goods.

Keywords : urban history; historic centers; Mexico City; urban revitalization; consumption.
